Over het boek
When Payton Rothmeir's father died, her 13 year-old life went into a downward spiral. She was forced to move in with her uncle who became obsessed with her and then arrested and shipped off to rehab two years later. Payton went from foster home to foster home over the course of the next two years, since no one wanted her due to the frequent nightmares. She hated it, but her last foster home became her family and they would do anything for her; she loved them dearly. Once her life was finally back to normal, her uncle was released from rehab and gained back custody of her. Payton's foster parents couldn't let her go back to him, so they helped her escape. They created a new identity for her and flew her to an expensive private school in Rhode Island. Payton knew it would be hard to start a new life as Melissa Matthews, but she actually began to enjoy herself. Then when her foster dad, Adam had a heart attack, Payton felt she had to see him before it's too late. Is it safe to go back when she has made it so far away?
